Week 49: Pioneer Day

Hi Mom!

What a week, right? haha. It was pretty eventful for me as well! I am glad that all is well for you and that everyone is safe, healthy and happy!

So this week was full of fun! We went to the Stake "July Jubilee" (Pioneer Day celebration) and had a great time! I feel like it was hyped up to more than it actually was, but it was good, nonetheless. E.E and I were in charge of the dunk tank where the 12-17 year olds would come up and try to dunk various church leaders! But it turned out to be a bunch of 2-10 year olds and their parents... So it was a handful... The parents more than the children, but it was fun! We didn't pick up any new investigators from it, but we did give a lot of help in making it a success!

The other really cool thing was that we picked up 3 new investigators from members! One lady is a friend of a recent convert, and the other two are a couple that live next door to some members. So we helped the G's move in a couple weeks ago and Sister W. invited then to dinner with us and some other members who are neighbors. They came and had a great time and we were then able to share a message about building our lives upon the perfect foundation, who is Christ (Helaman 5:12). They seemed to enjoy it, but we had to get going. Later that night we got a call from Sister W. She said that the G's kept asking all these questions about what we believe and the W's handled it perfectly! They invited the G's to take the missionary lessons, and they accepted! So we are going to be setting something up today with them! Super cool miracle! So... yeah. Missionary work is the best! Sister W. also told us that she is going to sign up on the dinner calendar once a month and she wants us to invite any investigators that we are working with to go! Super sweet! I am totally going to do that with the missionaries when I get older!

Aside from that, E. Ellis is going to be leaving the area and I am going to be getting a new comp! It is sad, but I know my next comp will be great! The mission is full of great missionaries! We would've gone to transfers anyways to haul bikes around. But there are a lot of things we are going to be starting up with the Zone for this next transfer. I feel like we weren't that best ZLs we could've or should've been, but we have many ideas that we will be implementing into the Zone for this next transfer! Missionary work it the BEST!

Thanks for being so great, Mom! It sure does help! We are all extremely blessed to have the true and everlasting gospel in our lives to lead us back to our Heavenly Father. His purpose is to get us back home, and our purpose is to help Him achieve that! I love you and hope you have a great week!

Love,
Elder Brian Farley

Week 48: After Hump Day!

Hi Mom!

So this week went by really quick! Because of our mail rule, I wasn't able to open my 'Hump Day' package until this morning, and it seems like just yesterday that I got the package! Anyway, all the gifts and things you sent are greatly appreciated by me and the other Elders! haha.  I shared the cookies with them and let them check out all my other goodies!

But things here are going really well! E. Jensen is no longer sick and no one else is either! The San Marcos Zone is doing alright. The mission isn't a cakewalk, but that never means we give up. Besides, if we do everything in our power to build the Kingdom we can walk with our heads high, knowing that we have been faithful in our efforts. That's what I wish the zone would internalize. That, and working as if it all relies on us, but having faith and hope in the Lord as if it all relies on Him.

Our investigator "I" is still doing great! He came to church yesterday and loved it! He said he is going to bring the rest of his family next week too! He is a really good learner too! We had a lesson in Elders quorum about the oath and covenant of the priesthood and he understood ever part of it and had no problems! He told us that he has a lot of questions for us, but then quickly said "nothing bad, I'm just curious about some things." So we are going to be playing volleyball with him and the rest of the zone today and then have a lesson tomorrow! His only problem is with the Word of Wisdom, but he's really trying to quit! He's so close!

Other than "I", there hasn't been much happening with our other investigators, but we'll get in contact and meet with them soon!

The other events of this week have been breaking my bike (which is now in the shop. And I gave them Dad's number for some reason, so they'll call dad when the bike is fixed... whoops), getting a bike from a member for the time being, and having a blast in the rain! It's been a fun week!

To answer your questions:
Yes, Im still planning on USU
And I loved the 'Hump Day' package! It was super funny! I was expecting camel things like Sean's package(that was a year and a half ago!)!
And we are in the San Marcos Zone

That's all that I've got! Thanks for all your help and support! I am so blessed to have a mom like you and to be in our family! I love you and hope you have a great week!

ps. no pictures this week... I don't know where my picture connector thing went.. I'll find it though

Week 47: Hump Day!!

Elder Ellis, Chief, Elder Farley
Hey Mom!

So its almost hump day and I now know how Sean felt when he hit his halfway point. The time sure does fly by. I was talking to another elder about it the other day, and its just crazy that I have more time behind me than in front of me out here. I still have more field time to go because I was in the MTC for a transfer, but still. Nevertheless, I am still excited to get the Hump day package! I bet it's going to be awesome considering the one you sent to Sean! I probably wont get to open it for a week though, because there is a rue about opening mail throughout the week. Only on p-day we can open mail. Soooooo.... haha. It's all good though.

Anyway, now to the mission life! This week has been crazy! Our new investigator, "I", is so great! (he is a hip-hop rap artist! So sweet!) We had a lesson with him on Monday morning and night, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday! We set a baptismal date with him for the 26th, and he already has a huge testimony of the Church! He just needs to give up some addictions and go to church and he'll be ready! His wife is also really happy that we are teaching him and will soon be taking the lessons! That was the biggest miracle of this week! But we also got a text from a recent move in to the ward who was telling us that their neighbor was just moving in as well and that we should come and help them move. Turns out that they are not members, but they are super cool! We talked to them about the Church, the Prophet, the Apostles, and missions, and they seemed pretty interested! The members next door helped them move, as well as members who lived down the street a bit! So all their neighbors that they know are Mormon! haha. So at the very end the members next door told us that we are eating dinner with them on the 26th and then invited the non-member family (the Gibson's) to join us that day, and they said they'd come! So that was another really cool miracle! The Santa Fe Hills Ward has got a lot of good stuff happening! Oh, as well as a kid who is a member's friend who wants to get baptized! MEMBER WORK WORKS! Super sweet!:)

Spanish is still going well. I can still talk to anyone without really thinking about what I am saying, but I am just forgetting some words here and there. I get Spanish study like once a week... And even then its not much. But I'll survive ;)

The past couple days have been a bit hectic because Elder Jensen has strep Today has really been busy, but I have more time to email today for sure.

I'm not sure on what else to say... But things are going well, the Church is true, and I'm having a blast! I love you and hope you have a wonderful week!

Elder Brian Farley

Roommates thought this was a funny prank to pull on the ZL's!
